Three board members have quit Galloway’s social housing partnership in a ‘fat cat’ pay row. Ian Howie, Alasdair Gordon and Arthur Hanson resigned from the board of the Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership - which took over the region’s council housing stock earlier this year - after it emerged that DGHP’s Chief Executive Yvonne McQuarrie has received a whopping £30,000 pay rise. The board members resigned after a meeting where the salary of the chief executive was discussed.

Land fund grant secures Mull

The future of Scotland’s most southerly point took a big step forward today on Wednesday thanks to a grant from the Scottish Land Fund. The Mull of Galloway Estate will now be brought into community ownership and protected and developed as a tourism and heritage asset.

Big pedal success for Leswalt

The pupils of Leswalt Primary are celebrating after cycling their way into National success in “The Big Pedal 2013”. The boys and girls made their way to school on bikes and scooters, over a three-week period. Every journey made by the pupils and their parents was recorded by staff. The pupils had vowed to “take it easy” this year after last year they won the overall National competition. However, they were soon climbing up the leadership tables and finished runners up for the whole of Scotland and third overall in the UK for the small school category.
